Meltdown

Meltdown showcases Dan Pearce at his most experimental, where he’s taken a blowtorch to dozens of cassette tapes to create an incredible textured circular canvas, then spray-painted the whole thing in brilliant yellow and brought it to life with a glowing pink neon smiley. The heat-warped plastic creates these amazing organic patterns and textures, transforming discarded music media into something completely new and mesmerising.

There’s something beautifully symbolic about giving old cassettes new life as art – it’s like watching the evolution of music culture in one piece. The pink neon smiley emerges from that bright yellow textured surface like pure happiness made visible, suggesting that no matter how much technology changes, the joy that music brings us remains constant. It’s destruction and creation happening simultaneously, with a smile that lights up any room.
