Kinetic Drop

// DESCRIPTION

The art of impact, a ripple of influence.

I titled this sculpture ‘Kinetic Drop‘ because it captures that precise moment when a water droplet collides with a surface—freezing in metal that split-second when energy disperses in all directions.

Growing up on the Australian coast, my earliest memories are filled with water. Every day was spent at the beach—learning to surf on my first small board and playing endlessly in the waves with my brothers. Though I moved to the UK when I was just four years old and eventually settled in London, those early experiences with water stayed with me.

With all my work, I aim to trigger one of three responses: to make viewers think ‘How did he do that?’, to inspire them to touch the artwork, or to encourage movement around the piece for different perspectives. ‘Kinetic Drop‘ achieves all three—its complex form raises questions about its creation, the smooth surface invites touch, and as you move around it, the reflections continuously transform.

And as we move through different times of day and changing seasons, the reflections will shift and our perspectives will be altered, but the human connection remains constant—just like the Four Seasons‘ guiding principle of treating people as you wish to be treated. For twenty years, this philosophy has created ripples of positive experience throughout Doha, extending the hotel’s influence far beyond its walls, just as a single droplet creates circles that reach well beyond its point of impact.
